Nikki crashed into the heart of Genoa City’s fast-track crowd when Victor Newman, do-everything dude of Newman Enterprises, met her at a strip club where she was working (dancing) all the way back in 1978.
It was a whirlwind affair that developed into something much deeper, and the couple have been married and divorced more times than Larry King.
Or something.
Nikki has run the gamut in her life, from devoted mother to high-powered business big cheese to kidnap victim to other woman to recovering alcoholic.
If it could happen to a person, it’s probably happened to Nikki Newman.
And, if a person could do it, then Nikki Newman has probably done it.
Of course, Nikki would be nothing at all without actress Melody Thomas Scott, who took over the role from Erica Hope in 1979 and never looked back.
Well, except for awhile in 1984, when Robin Eisenman replaced her.
But other than that, it’s been Scott, who has become a The Young and the Restless legend and a superstar of the soap opera world.

From there, Thomas appeared in episodes of several westerns and other TV shows through the 1960s and 1970s, and she also had parts in a handful of movies during that span.
But once she graced the small screen as Nikki Newman, the die had been cast.
No other role would ever be as defining for the actress.
And no other actress could ever do the role justice, not for the millions (billions?) of Y & R fans around the world.
