How Old Is Rhea Perlman?

Rhea Perlman was born on March 21, 1948.

As of April 28, 2025, she is 77 years old.

Perlman was born in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York.

Her father, Philip, was a Polish immigrant who worked making doll parts. Her mother, Adele, was a bookkeeper.

Perlman rose to fame on Cheers from 1982-93 as fiery barmaid Carla Tortelli, a role she also brought to spin-off Frasier.

Before all that, Perlman perfomed in off-Broadway shows and eventually landed a part as Louie De Palma’s girlfriend, Zena, on Taxi.

Louie, of course, was played by Danny Devito … who was Perlman’s real-life love interest. The couple married on January 28, 1982, and have three children together.

After Cheers ended in 1993, Perlman ran off a series of appearances in TV and theatrical movies before landing the starring role in her own sitcom, dubbed Pearl.

Lasting just one season (1995-96), Pearl starred Perlman as an older mother who decided to make up for some of the things she missed out on earlier in life, including going back to college. The series reunited Perlman with her Taxi go-star, Carol Kane.

In the years since Pearl ended, Perlman has continued to appear regularly in film and TV roles, including strong recurring or starring roles in half a dozen or more television series.

Her most recent steady role, as of early 2021, was as Annette Castellano in The Mindy Project from 2014-17.

In addition to her acting, Perlman has also served as a producer, singer, and writer on various television and film projects over the years.

She appeared in three films released during 2020 and, as 2021 dawns, is scheduled to appear as Wisewoman in the upcoming feature film titled, Man & Witch.

In all, Perlman has well over one hundred acting credits to her name, with many of those spanning copious episodes of the various TV series in which she has appeared.
